Roatán, Honduras 2005
(Maranatha/Pathfinder combined mission trip)

Working on two churches on the island.

(Westend and Juticalpa)

A panorama of Half Moon Bay from the pier.

Arriving at the apartments.

It’s ok Marie, we’ll only be here 10 days!

Marie was our kind hostess.

The apartments where we stayed.

(Enchanting Sunset Apartments, Roatan, Honduras)

Half moon bay in front of the apartments where we stayed.  It’s a beautiful bay with coral reefs and crystal clear water.

This was a beach bar that had lot’s of loud music on Friday nights.  It was a bit distracting, but not too bad.  We were so exhausted each day that it didn’t take much to get us into bed at an early hour.

We started building the trusses for the Juticalpa church on the front lawn of the Westend church.  There was more room there.

Most everyone helped on getting the trusses built.

Then we painted the trusses white before installing them.  It just seemed easier.

Jason painting the purlins.

Putting the plates on the trusses.  It took a lot of nails and some near blisters on the hands to get all the plates on the joints of the trusses.

The Juticalpa church before the trusses were installed.  The local church members build the walls of the church shortly before we arrived.  It was part of the deal with them.  If they would get the church ready for the trusses, Maranatha would come build and install the trusses.

Here the trusses are going up.  I didn’t get too many pictures of the actual installation since I was up on the walls lifting the trusses and nailing them to the beams on top of the walls.

After we installed the trusses, the locals came out and started attaching the roof plating onto the purlins.  It was so hot up on that roof that we were thankful we didn’t have to do the roof installation.

Having church in the Juticalpa church with the new roof installed and the walls painted.  We raised some money for the windows and doors but they didn’t all get installed in time.

There were so many people for church that there wasn’t enough room in the church building, so people had to stand outside and listen to the service.

The children had their Sabbath school class outside on the back of a truck.  It was fun to watch the youngsters sing and have a good time.

Sanding and prepping the window bars for painting.  They were rusted and dirty.

Here’s the Westend church before we repainted the inside and outside.

Redoing the doors on the rooms to the church.  They had to be sanded and refinished.

Melissa getting dirty by sanding.  Isn’t it fun?

At the bar after a long day at work.  Ah, those sodas are refreshing.  The breeze felt good too.

Getting ready to go home after an eventful day of painting.

Jason giving his first sermon at the Westend church.

Two brothers.

Taking a bath….ah, how refreshing!

Say ‘Smile at the camera!’

Church goers.

Evening activities.  A view from the porch where we stayed.

Look out!  I think it’s a shark!

We were some pretty dirty tourists!

This is how we washed all the dirt off our bodies after a hot sweaty day of work.

More of the island.

Pirates!  I must warn the others….

A church that we visited on the coral island, I think it was west of Port Royal.

This little church was located somewhere in the lower middle part of the map.  Our apartments were off to the left, not on the map.

This is a shot in the back of the church seen at left.  It is the baptismal in the sea.

Look!  Sea trees!

(These were in the baptismal)

Melissa and a local jumping for joy!

Mike’s House

A little fix’er-up’er.  Just a little paint, spackle and curtains and you’ve got a great abode.

Another side of the island – not sure where.

A mysterious creature we happened upon whilst frolicking through the Roatán jungles.

Some of our local neighbors.  For size comparison, the board it is on is a 4x4.

Half moon bay in the morning light.

I wonder if someone is fixing this little puppy up?

Our boat ride through the rubber trees.

Ahhhh….

Pip ‘n Squeek!

Most of our days were spent in this way.

(Mike, are you sure that coconut wasn’t a little too ripe?)

Ah…now this is what I call life!

This guy took his dog into the water and did a little dance with it.

This is a picture of the dead coral that makes up some of the island.

This is me sitting on some dead coral.  The slanting of the sea is due to the fact that we were below the Tropic of Cancer.  It took a little getting used to, but we eventually did.

Lookin’ good Jason!

Suave…dude.

(Chad – 5 mission trips)

Whaaaa?  We have to leave?

Don’t make me go home!!!!

(Actually this is the plane we took getting to the island, but it works for leaving too.)

Leaving…..{sniff}  when can we come back? {sob}
